My family including my three nephews (ages 7-12) visited Fort Rock the day after Christmas and we had a great time. I haven't climbed in almost thirty years so I have no experience, but the staff are very helpful, patient, and kind. They took the time to explain everything and answer all questions. My sister, brother-in-law, and two out of the three nephews are experienced climbers. They all enjoyed the walls as much as I did. I was proud of myself making it to the top, ringing a few bells now that I'm over forty. Bouldering was a challenge and great exercise. I think the prices were reasonable at $30 for the day for adults and $25 per day for the kids (including shoes). I'm glad they sell a variety of beverages and some snacks.
We scheduled a meet up with friends for my youngest daughter who has Down syndrome. She was a little scared at first, but we were so proud of how hard she tried! Lina at Fort Rock Climbing Center was so supportive in helping the girls feel comfortable and be brave to try new skills! We found that more experienced climbers were also super kind and willing to offer pointers too! It was a nice experience!
It’s an alright place to spend a rainy day and it’s nice since it’s the only gym in the area. But, this is the worst gym I’ve been to: very dirty, smelly, the walls are creaky and shaky, bouldering’s routes are not labeled by difficulty, very hot, and not a lot of diversity. My biggest complaint is the price. I’ve never been to a gym this expensive for a day pass, let alone a gym like this. I expected better and more routes for the price. Fortunately, the staff was lovely, helpful, and kind despite the busy day. I think this gym is targeted towards kids? But it’s hard to say. I would go back since it’s the only option here, but it’s not the best.
I would like to start by saying the staff was wonderful. Unfortunately that is the only good thing I can say about this place. The price for this place is outrageous and 100% not worth it. The setting was something I have never seen before. It appears as if the setters have never climbed past a 5.7 and are guessing what a 5.11 is. There’s a difference between hard climbs and badly set climbs. Every climb past a 5.8 was big reaches and high steps with very little foot holds. The bouldering grades are just downright goofy. The difference between v6 and v8 is astronomical and trying to lump them together makes no sense. Again it feels like the holds were thrown at the wall and they were just like meh this will do. This place is definitely just for kids and birthday parties and not oriented for actual climbers or people looking to get into the sport. There was not a single route with inspiring setting. This place feels very commercial and built as a money grab for kids and not for climbers in the slightest. Again staff was wonderful and some of them were very psyched on climbing which made this place less terrible.
What a great experience!!! Everyone was so nice and helpful. Regardless your experience anyone can come here and have a great time! If you need help someone is always there. There are different walls depending how much you want to challenge yourself. We will definitely be going back! So nice to have one in this area!
We went to Fort Rock Climbing with a group of our homeschool friends. They allowed us to go an hour before they actually open to be able to have time by ourselves. The kids had a great time. If your looking for something different to do give them a try. It’s reasonably priced and they enjoyed their time climbing the walls. Will definitely go back and try them again.
Fort Rock is such a blast. Lina did an absolute amazing job helping us out today. She also instructed us on tips and tricks on our climbing technique. Lina made it for us today!!
Good time had by all!
A group of us went for a friend's birthday. Was our first time here and was fantastic. Sebastian, Lina and Katie were great. Very helpful in getting us setup, geared up, educated and ready to Rock! They we very attentive and checked in us regularly but let us do our thing.
We will be back and plan on bringing new friends!
